Journaling is a self-reflective tool that can help guide us through the many ebbs and flows of life. Although it is a blessing when our path is graced with healers and teachers, the true magick comes when this guidance leads us back to our own inner wisdom and knowing. Writing is a powerful way to nurture this process of integration, the slowing down process after a big revelation, or before a big transition. By taking the time to pause and reflect, we leave ourselves a road map for our awakening. No matter what topic we write on, the act of looking in becomes like a love letter to who we are in that moment and who we are becoming.
February 2 is Imbolc-a traditional Gaelic-Celtic celebration marking the halfway point between Winter and Spring. Imbolc gets its name from the Irish Gaelic Oimelc which translates to "ewes milk." As the end of winter nears, the sheep are nursing their newborn lambs and signs of light are starting to return to the landscape. Dreams of returning to the garden are starting to be nurtured, and it is the perfect time to give our respects to the Goddess Brighid. Brighid was the patron of poets and bards, as well as healers and magicians. She was especially honored when it came to matters of prophecy and divination.
October 31st marks the day of the year where the veil is the most of thin. Some call it Halloween or All Hallow's Eve, some call it Samhain (pronounced- "Sau-wain"), some even call it the Day of the Dead.
For witches, this day can often be seen as the New Year! The death of one year, and the birth of another. Since the veil is thin, we can sometimes speak with our ancestors, or receive messages from them. It is thus that we honour them- offer their favourite foods or treats on our altar to lure them even closer. Exactly a year ago, I was in Merritt BC- on this exact same meditation cushion, in this exact same onesie - surrounded by 100 other beautiful souls, All Silent.
I was at my very first Vipassana. Just as Goenka teaches, we aim for “No craving, no aversion.” Equanimity in all things. However let me tell you my experience.. This post comes to you after a decade of struggling with an STI, Bacterial Vaginosis (BV), and Yeast infections.
This is honestly such pertinent information for everyone to know!! Male and female. The view from my family cabin at Katepwa Lake. Litha / MidsummerSummer Solstice (also known as Litha or midsummer) is the longest day of the year! This is our midpoint where the days have grown long and we have welcomed the warming sun. We can take a moment to pause, take stock of all of the hard work and effort we have put in and take a little break.
This is a beautiful time to gather in ritual with others to honour ourselves and our community! May we refect on our blessings, give thanks to what we have received and call in the healing and messages we need (Originally published in REWILD)
When I was 15, I spent a summer in the most beautiful location: Tunnel Mountain, up near Banff surrounded by mountains; doing what I loved: dancing, all of the ballet; and eating the most amazing food (not to mention desserts) by world-class chefs. I was happy. I was beyond happy. One day, a group of girls suggested we all go down to the gym to weigh ourselves. Ok, I thought, this sounds fun. I never gave much thought to my weight before then. There were about five of us... As a new year arrives, so does a new tax season. Now, this isn't the most fun or glamorous part about being self-employed (unless you in fact love organizing like me...) but it is highly necesarry. Now, I'm not an accountant. This is simply a guide that I use and find helpful. For sure go to tax information sessions, you can usually find them for free for artists and yoga teachers: chat with your community, to gain accurate and up to date information on what the laws are in your region.
Before my Sexual Revolution began, I was on a mission to make my body and my surroundings as clean and natural as possible. That revolved mainly around food, buying all natural and organic products, humane and local as much as possible. That spread into beauty products, cleaning supplies, clothing, basically anything that I put on my body or interacted with in some way. Now I'm still not perfect but my world is getting cleaner and cleaner and my body is reaping the rewards.
