My Period Panties

Before my Sexual Revolution began, I was on a mission to make my body and my surroundings as clean and natural as possible. That revolved mainly around food, buying all natural and organic products, humane and local as much as possible. That spread into beauty products, cleaning supplies, clothing, basically anything that I put on my body or interacted with in some way. Now I'm still not perfect but my world is getting cleaner and cleaner and my body is reaping the rewards.

A few weeks ago I shared a photo and a story of how I started to consciously remove the hormones I put in my body. Since I was 18 I had been using the birth control pill as a way to induce my period (I was underweight and going months at a time without one), and the hormones in the pill really affected my mood. I would have these crazy mood swings and not feel in control of myself. As I shared in my post, I switched off of the pill and over to using a copper IUD so I could be more in control of my hormones.

Bliss!!

However, I still got some weird PMS symptoms, irritability and mood swings. I realize this is natural with my own hormone production but after a few years it wasn't really stabilizing and I still didn't feel in control. I had already cut out extra estrogen that are in foods such as soy milk and some meat products. This is when I started learning more about tampons... So what's in a tampon? It conveniently helps plug up and absorb our menstrual fluid but what about those warnings of Toxic Shock Syndrome? And what about that awful smell and awkwardness of not flushing it down the toilet (LADIES it plugs up the septic system! Don't do it!). I also really disliked the amount of waste I was creating with pads and panty liners; surely there was another way.

We all use tampons and they've been around so long so they must be safe, right? Wrong... I'll let you read about it all here and come to your own conclusions. So if I'm not ingesting chemicals in my food and only using all natural products to clean my house, why would I put chemicals in one of the most sensitive areas of my body?! Besides the environmental and economic impact, my biggest reason for stopping my use of tampons was the irritability and mood swings it would bring me. Every woman is different, but I am super sensitive and I could tell that the chemicals being transferred in my vagina were not doing me good; I would get extra irritable and cranky while using them.

So I did my research. I found many different types of menstrual cups and I ended up going with The Diva Cup. It is a very well known Canadian company and product that many women use. For those of you who haven't tried a menstrual cup yet, it's weird. And awkward. But once you get past that, it's amazing! I can do anything, anywhere and not need to worry about tampons or waste- it's so much simpler! I can honestly say that I still struggle with getting it in just right to prevent leakage but my advice is to just keep trying (and make sure you turn it!). Talk to your girlfriends, message me, and just keep trying! Also, find the right cup for you; we all have different vaginal cavities and we're all unique, so embrace it.

The other product I found was Lunapads! This is another Canadian company dedicated to improving the lives of women all over the world. Almost all of their products come in the option of Organic Cotton (note, none of the products in the images shown are organic cotton). They have washable pads, pantyliners and my favourite, lined underwear! Honestly, I'm in love. Look how gorgeous they are! They're super comfortable and make me feel reassured and sexy. What could be better?! No more stinky and ugly sticky things falling out of my underwear or getting stuck to my legs. I'm sold.

I've been using my Lunapads for a few months now and they're the greatest compliment to the Diva Cup, or even just light flow days. The company even sells packages with the Diva Cup so definitely worth your while. I said before I'm not affiliated with either company, but I believe in the product so much I just had to share. I want to empower women (and men who support them) to take control of their bodies and invest in products that support us as oppose to hurt us. If I can look and feel sexy in these underwear, you can too! Try it out and find the freedom and empowerment that I have. Be a goddess and embrace that time of the month (I've heard rumours that we become more powerful and intuitive during our flow! Better not let chemicals rob us of that!).

Loving you so much. Reach out with any questions or inquiries!
